Electrocardiography (ECG)

About

At Amsterdam Tourist Doctors electrocardiograms (ECGs) can be performed.

Electrocardiography (ECG) is the graphic recording of the hearts electrical activity. The graph produced during the process is referred to as the electrocardiogram and it can show various disorders like:

• Heart rhythm disorders
• Oxygen deficiency in heart muscle
• Cardiac arrest
• Previous myocardial infarction
• Hypertrophic heart

The procedure

Two tags are placed on the wrists, two on the ankles and six on the chest. All tags are connected to ECG device that registers heart muscle’s electrical activity. When the test is completed, tags will be removed and you can dress up again. The procedure lasts for about 15 minutes and is non-invasive, painless and safe.

Target group

An ECG is performed in case person experience discomfort in the cardiac zone, has been diagnosed with heart disorders or diabetes mellitus or uses antihypertensive medications.

Preparations

For ECG test you will be asked to lie on the bench bare-chested and uncovered legs and arms. Therefore we recommend you to wear clothes which can easily be taken off and put on again. Male patients are requested, if applicable, to shave part of their chest in order to properly place tags there. In order to establish proper connection, gel will be applied on the spots where ten electrodes are going to be attached.

Results

The results will be discussed in a separate consultation. In case ECG shows anomalies, it might be necessary to conduct further checks.

An electrocardiogram (ECG) is not included in the price of a consultation; a surcharge applies.
